Vintage WW2 Watches

The timepieces in this collection offer a window into the horological landscape of World War II, with a particular focus on military-issued watches that played crucial roles in various theaters of conflict. These watches were not mere accessories but essential tools for pilots, navigators, soldiers, and other personnel, providing precise timekeeping under demanding circumstances.

Swiss Precision in Service

1944 IWC Beobachtungsuhr LeuchtzifferblattThe Alpina KM 586 and Alpina KM 592 models exemplify Swiss watchmaking expertise applied to military requirements. These robust timepieces were favored by German forces, featuring legible dials, luminous hands, and reliable movements. They served on the wrists of sailors and officers of the Kriegsmarine.

The 1939 Jaeger Le Coultre RAF Pocket watch and the 1942 Waltham RAF watch represent the British contribution to wartime horology. These watches were issued to Royal Air Force personnel, providing essential timekeeping for pilots during aerial missions. Their accuracy and durability were paramount for navigation, timing maneuvers, and coordinating attacks.

The collection features several German-made watches, including the 1941 Zentra KM 338 and 1942 Zentra KM 334. These timepieces were part of the Kriegsmarine’s standard issue, designed to withstand the rigors of combat while providing essential timekeeping functions. The 1942 Wagner 650 KM was another German military watch known for its reliability and distinctive design.

The 1944 IWC Beobachtungsuhr, a large observation watch, stands out for its specialized purpose. These oversized timepieces were used by navigators in U-Boats. Their large dials and luminous markers made them easily readable even in low-light conditions.

While the majority of watches in the collection were military-issued, some civilian models also found their way into service. The 1944 Revue Sport, for example, was a popular Swiss watch that was sometimes worn by officers and soldiers who preferred its elegant design and reliable movement. The 1945 Breitling Premier, though not directly issued to the military, represents the return to civilian watch production after the war, marking a transition to peacetime.
